The Barnacle, opened in 1997, in the Rockcrest building by the wharf, is situated at the point where all visitors arrive and depart the island. The Barnacle is a name associated with the history of the island, as a tea room that quenched the thirst of many visitors and locals back in the early part of this century. The building that the Barnacle is situated in has overlooked the wharf since the beginning of the 19th Century and the huge wooden beams that are the strength of the building are evident inside and provide a background for the original lobster bouys which decorate the beams.

The Barnacle has a state-of-the-art expresso machine and serves a full line of coffees using locally roasted award-winning Rock City coffee. We also offer teas, juices, sodas, waters and ice cream, and a variety of home baked goods including lemon bars, brownies, cookies and blueberry pies; and prepared sandwiches and salads, all of which can be taken home, on a picnic or eaten at the Barnacle. Muffins, croissant and breads are ready to take home for breakfast and sandwiches, salads and fruit pies for lunch or dinner. Coffee beans, teas, jams and mustards are available to purchase together with unique postcards, T shirts and gifts. The opening hours for the Barnacle are 8.00am to the late afternoon or early evening.
